|
Chicago, IL - June 29, 2004
Lexecon, one of the leading economic consulting firms in the U.S., today announced that Dennis Carlton, senior managing director at the company and Professor of Economics at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, has been named by President George W. Bush to serve on the Antitrust Modernization Commission. Lexecon is owned by FTI Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: FCN).
The Antitrust Modernization Commission is a 12-member bipartisan commission created by Congress to evaluate the current operation of the nation's antitrust laws and enforcement and determine whether there is a need to modernize U. S. antitrust laws, and if so, what types of changes should be considered. The Commission is to solicit the views of "all parties concerned with the operation of the antitrust laws," identify and study issues, and report to Congress and the President within three years after the Commission's first meeting. This is the first antitrust commission established by Congress since 1938.
“The review of U.S. competitive policy is critical and I regard it as an extraordinary honor to be appointed to the Commission,” said Professor Carlton. “I look forward to working closely with my fellow appointees to review and debate all sides of the antitrust issues involved, and provide beneficial recommendations to Congress and the President.”
Professor Carlton has written widely on antitrust issues and is the co-author of Modern Industrial Organization, the leading textbook on industrial organization. He has been involved in a wide variety of major antitrust and merger matters involving computers, telecommunications, airlines, higher education and other industries. Professor Carlton has served as a consultant to the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission on antitrust matters including The Merger Guidelines. Professor Carlton is also the co-editor of the Journal of Law and Economics.
